This is awarded to the flight (class) with the highest academic average, uniform wear, and participation in extracurricular activities. Congratulations to Flight of the Quarter for 98-3, Alpha Flight.

  C a d e t s  o f   t h e  Q u a r t e r

Three cadets are chosen for this honor based on the same criteria as the Flight of the Quarter. Each cadet receives a "Cadet of the Quarter" jacket and a ribbon. The Cadet of the Quarter is also treated to lunch by the Colonel.

Cadet Senior Airman Matt Pratt is a Freshman at Garden City High School. Matt is part of our Drill Team and Color Guard. Matt has many hobbies -- two of which he told us about. Matt's favorite hobbies are collecting sports cards and playing ccg games. Matt keeps his grades up and still has time for an after-school job at Bob's of Canton in Westland as a bagger. When asked what his plans are after he graduated, he answered "I plan to go to the University of Michigan and later become a lawyer."

 

Cadet 1st Lt Erik Pelto, a Junior in the JROTC program, is a first time Cadet of the Quarter. Erik is involved with many different school activities as well as JROTC activities. Erik is our new Commander of our Exhibition Drill Team for his senior year. He is also on the Color Guard and a staff member. Erik's staff position is Squadron Commander of our Alpha and Bravo Flights. Erik likes to write poetry and is part of our school's Poetry Guild. Erik's hobbies are playing his guitar, hanging out with his friends, working on his car, and watching movies. Erik works at DePalma's Ristorante as a busboy. Erik's plans after graduation are to spend 1 1/2 years working and saving money before enlisting in the Air Force for four years. Erik says, "I want to go to a four-year college either at Calvin College, St. Joe's or MSU, graduate, then go to Specs Howard School of Broadcasting Arts, after that who knows?"

 

Cadet Major Justin Maynard is a Senior at Garden City High School. Justin is a third and fourth year cadet. Justin's activities in the JROTC program are Color Guard and Staff. Justin's staff position is the DO (Deputy of Operations). Justin is part of the Varsity Club and is the Sergeant of Arms in the National Honor Society. Justin has played Junior Varsity and Varsity Soccer for four years, and he has been Captain all four years. Justin keeps an after-school job at Little Caesar's Pizza. When asked what his plans are, "I'm joining the Navy as a nuclear programmer."
