Thank you for viewing our AFJROTC Web Page. Our purpose is to inform you about the AFJROTC program at Garden City High School and to recognize some of the cadets and their accomplishments. First, some background:

The AFJROTC program began at Garden City High School GCHS) in 1986. Cadets attend class for one hour each day, learning about such subjects as military history, why airplanes fly, space exploration, weather, engines, navigation, leadership, and military customs. Students also take field trips to airports, military bases and museums, and are invited to participate in drill team, rifle team, color guard, and community service activities. AFJROTC courses count toward the Life Skills requirement for graduation, and our first-year course fulfills the 1/2 credit social studies elective requirement. A wide selection or activities offer all students the potential to excel in AFJROTC. Following are several potential benefits for enrolling:

- may qualify the student to enlist in any branch or the military at two pay grades higher (E-3 verses 1), increasing initial pay by approximately $200 per month. Students who enroll in Junior AFJROTC have no military obligation.

- by meeting selection criteria, students may be awarded Air Force Senior ROTC college scholarships. These scholarships are either three or four year and include all books, uniforms, $150 tax-free monthly allowance, and tuition and fees which may be worth more than $80,000

As a 9th grader, we realize that after school plans are still four years in the future. Many of our cadets join JROTC for other reasons. Here are just a few: want to be a fighter pilot (Marine, SEAL, Green Beret, Ranger), attend academy (West Point. Naval, Air Force,), my brother (sister, cousin) was (is) in the program, I heard it was fun (easy), they go on lots of field trips, Uncle (aunt, brother, sister) was in the military, (look at cadet info sheets)
