Wag The Dog |

After emerging from the theater, I felt I had been wagged. This is the biggest movie disappointment I've had in recent memory. The only reason I gave it this high of a rating is because De Niro is in the credits. I can't understand how everyone seems to love this one while the thought of it makes me cringe."Wag The Dog" is about a scandal involving the President which must be covered up by inventing a war to distract the public's attention. Robert De Niro plays the guy who must save the President's ass and Dustin Hoffman is the Hollywood producer called in to manufacture a war. The premise sounds good. Show us how susceptible the public is to the manipulation of the media. I wanted to walk out of the movie thinking of these possibilities, but instead everything done was entirely implausible. Anyone who watched the media coverage during Desert Shield/Storm knows how war reporting occurs. This movie will lead you to believe that leaking a story to a few news agencies makes a war a reality. It does not. I won't even get into how horrible it is to have the scandal involve the President raping a young girl. I don't care if it's just a movie. The movie is sickening all the way around. Sorry, Mr. De Niro, after further evaluation, I'm dropping my rating. I hope you were paid well. |
