The Thin Red Line |

With a release after the highly successful, "Saving Private Ryan", "The Thin Red Line" has a lot to live up to. I think it gets killed in the crossfire somewhere in the first hour. This movie follows the movement of US forces in WWII in the South Pacific. Unlike Private Ryan, TTRL gets very introspective and is more of a 'touchy-feely' war movie. Extended sequences of this nature prolong the movie unnecessarily in my opinion. There are some spectacular scenes, but they are few and far between. In one of the day-dream scenes, I nearly fell asleep. The movie is well done, but the slant just wasn't for me. |
