There's Something About Mary

Mary is the object of affection of a host of characters in this movie not to mention your's truly. Cameron Diaz stars as Mary whose high school prom date goes awry 13 years ago. The movie follows the efforts of her prom date (Ben Stiller) as he attempts to track her down first through a sleazy insurance investigator (Matt Dillon) and then personally. These two and everyone else seems to fall hard for Mary and hilarity insues. The Farrelly brothers who wrote and directed this movie were also responsible for Dumb and Dumber and Kingpin. What does that mean? It means you should be prepared to laugh at the disgusting, the painful, and the outrageous. This movie takes some well-cast actors, a good story, and mixes in the most outrageous scenes in recent memory. You'll either be offended or rolling on the floor laughing. I chose the floor. The movie was not perfect however. There were a few great exchanges between characters with clever writing, but more, great script writing and fewer sight gags would have given this movie a longer life. I look forward to watching the maturation process of these young and talented writers/directors.
