With names like Ralph Fiennes, Sean Connery, and Uma Thurman how can this movie miss? Not even the best performances of these fine actors' careers could have lifted this disaster. I feel like I need to be avenged for the hour I wasted in the theater before walking out. The premise sounds fine enough. A remake of the old British television series pairs Fiennes and Thurman as stylish, intelligent, resourceful intelligence officers who have to save the world from the weather controlling plans of Connery. Except, that's all there is to it. No interesting twists or spins on the basic villain threatening the world scenario. The attempts at providing witty English humor was lifeless. The storyline is uninspired. The banter between Fiennes and Thurman was annoying. There is zero suspense. I cared so much about the ending, that I left before it ever arrived -- only the second time I've ever done this. If you like any of these actors, skip this. Don't tarnish your opinions of otherwise fine actors. Avenge me! PS. After leaving this theater I walked into the nextdoor to catch the last half of There's Something About Mary again. At least I left the multiplex with a smile. |
